2018 TOURNAMENT RESULTS

SILVER CUP RESULTS

It was a ton of hard work but the SNV players finally won back the Silver Cup. The weather was a little cold but the play was hot as the South got off to a great start in the alternate shot format winning that session 6.5 to 3.5. Of course, in the best ball format the lead tightened with the session being split 5 and 5. Laura Jones, Ruth Maxwell, Christie Atencio and Sheri Bradley played stellar golf for the North. The singles matches were going to decide everything as 20 points are available. The South needed 9 points to take the trophy and the North needed 11 1/2 to keep the trophy. The South won the first two matches being played by Gabbi Buonacorsi and Nancy Dunn. Then the South hit a dry spell with Kathy Streeter, Carol Colwell and Christy Atencio winning. Remember, it is the first team to their needed points (not the total when all the matches end) so if our player was losing she needed to keep from giving that point to the North as long as she could which is what Laura Smith did taking that match to 17. Diane Booth did similarly, halving the match with Cheryl Burke on 18. They delayed the North from winning points until Monica Fairbanks, Christina Soscia, Shana Pederson, Debbie Love, Ruby Biehl and Rusty Beckel brought it home. Three players won all 3 of their matches and they were Gabbi Buonacorsi, Nancy Dunn and Monica Fairbanks. Congratulations to the South.

PARTNERS TOURNAMENT

This years partner event was held at the Revere Golf Club in Henderson. The weather was a little chilly and breezy but overall a great two days. Ronda Henderson and Sherry Jackson won the gross event shooting 145. Linda Cartwright and Sandy Jenkins won the net side shooting 131.

STATE STROKE PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

The state amateur was held this year at Dragon Ridge Country Club. The tournament was broken into two divisions with a Championship division and a net/gross Silver State Division. The Nevada State Amateur Champion came out of the Championship Division (gross only at 5844 yds). Veronica Joels is now the 2018 State Amateur Champion joining such luminaries as Patty Sheehan, Lori Elliott, Brenda Knott and Laurie Johnson. Veronica just graduated high school and will be attending UNLV on a golf scholarship. The Silver State Division (gross and net at 5350 yds) was won by My Paulson on the gross side and Nancy Dunn on the net side. All the results can be found in the table above.

QUAD TOURNAMENT

Nakoma Resort was the site for the annual quad tournament. Nakoma is located up in Clio, CA and was a beautiful setting for such an event. The course was set up tougher than usual but of course it brought out the best in all the teams. The team of Janice Campbell, Debbie Schwoyer, Karen Hoppe and Elaine Walker won the gross prize. This team is notorious for being very good. The net side of the event was won by Nancy Fackelmann, Joni Taylor, Nancy O'Neal and Christine Laxague. All the results can be found in the table above.

STATE SENIOR AMATEUR

Regina Quintero showed up tough to beat in the 2018 Nevada State Senior Amateur. The event was held at Anthem Country Club on October 16 and 17th. Regina was the gross champion shooting 153 with Christy Atencio taking 2nd at 154. Christy and Regina both played great. The net overall winner was Gabriele Buonacorsi shooting 136. She was spectacular playing her own course as was Monica Fairbanks who took second shooting 141. This event is flighted by age and the flight winners can be found under results. The course was in very good shape and the weather was nice as well.
