SOUTHERN NEVADA WOMENS GOLF ASSOCIATION

MEETING MINUTES

March 31, 2003

Jan Hansen called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. at the Las Vegas Country Club.

Roll Call:  All associations had delegates present.  Absent were:  President, Rene’ Raynes; State Delegates Laurie Johnson and Sherry Jackson; and Committee Chairs Dianne Jett and Topsy Glantz.

Review & Approval of Previous Minutes:  Minutes were approved as written.

OFFICER REPORTS

President:  Jan Hansen for Rene’ Raynes

No report.

Vice President:  Jan Hansen

The newsletter was sent out several weeks ago and Jan has extra copies available for those who need them.  Please note that the Sun City Member/Guest day was incorrect in the Newsletter and the correct day is November 11.  Jan anticipates that the next newsletter will be generated sometime in July.  Please make sure D’Anne has current addresses for Club members.

Secretary:  Jeanne Hudgins

No report.

Treasurer:  D’Anne Daniels

D’Anne gave the Treasurer’s report for February.  The beginning balance was $14,396.18, with receipts for handicap reimbursement and Team Play entries.  Disbursements included Desert Rose Team Play and bag handling, and DragonRidge deposit. The checking account balance after Team Play reserves and Desert Rose receipts is $13,911.18.  The savings account ending balance is $1,282.95.   D’Anne reported that she was successful in updating our account with Bank of Nevada so we can now transfer funds through e-mail at no charge.  This will allow us to leave more money in savings, thereby earning more interest.

Tournament Chairperson:  D’Anne Daniels for Dianne Jett

D’Anne reported that the March Fun Day at Boulder Creek was a success and that 100 of the 112 eligible players participated in the pot game.  There are currently 68 entries in the Southern Nevada Senior Amateur at SilverStone and 50 entries for the Southern Nevada Amateur at The Falls at Lake Las Vegas.

Sue May reported that Angel Park has pulled out of SNGA; consequently, players no longer establish their handicap through the local GHIN system which may impact their eligibility for tournaments.  This will become a bigger issue if additional clubs pull away from SNGA.  Sue will keep us informed.

Linda Martin questioned how the groupings were determined for the Fun Day as low handicappers were playing with high handicappers.  D’Anne explained that the thinking on the mixed pairings was that it would help to maintain the pace of play.  The Group was reminded that this was a Fun Day and that low handicappers would not normally be paired with high handicappers in other tournaments.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Rules:  Sue May

Sue is still busy with conducting rules seminars for groups of 20-25 players.  She encouraged all organizations to contact her if they would like a rules seminar at their course.

Team Play:  D’Anne Daniels for Topsy Glantz

D’Anne reported that the Team Play party will be held August 18th at the Las Vegas Country Club.  The cost will be $75, which includes lunch.

Silver Cup:  Jeanne Hudgins for Laurie Durant and Sherry Jackson

Jeanne reported that there are currently only 15 entries for the Silver Cup qualifier on June 3rd at Siena.  She asked delegates to encourage participation and to talk-it-up with their organizations.

Course Rating:  Sherry Corsello

Sherry reported that Mountain Falls in Pahrump has opened 9 holes for play.  The ratings came in at 72.2/126 from the Reds and 76.1/129 from the Whites and are based on playing the existing nine holes twice.  The second nine is scheduled to open this fall.  Revere needs to be re-rated due to new markings on the course.  Sherry will be scheduling Wildhorse in the near future.

Unfinished Business:

Sherry Jackson is still looking for help with website maintenance.  Rene’ has finished classes and Irene Frank has one more to go.  Anyone with expertise in this area is encouraged to contact Sherry.

New Business

State Tournament Update:  Irene Frank reported that she has received 22 entries for the State Partners and two entries for the State Amateur.  Irene sent the forms to all association Presidents and Tournament Chairpersons.  Sherry Corsello stated that the State booklets are at the printers.

Jan Hansen highlighted a new USGA Walking Program, which promotes fitness and wellness by walking while you play.  More information is available on the USGA website and details are provided on how golfers can become walking members.

Margie Bowgren provided delegates with information on the 27th U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Sectional Qualifier to be held May 28th at Siena.  Those interested are encouraged to apply on-line, but hard copy entries are available upon request.  The Pub Links Championship will be June 17-22 at the Ocean Hammock Golf Club, Palm Coast, Florida.

Kathleen Williamson, Volunteer Coordinator for the LPGA Takefuji Classic to be held April 14-19, spoke to the group.  She is still looking for volunteers, primarily on Thursday and Friday.  She needs help with the leader board, tent area, scoring control, marshals and runners.  Kathleen encouraged delegates to spread the word and provided applications for those interested.

The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 21, 2003 at 8:30 am at LVCC.

Meeting was adjourned.
